THE BAND
Born out of the ashes of two Shropshire bands and the emergence of an unsung lyricist, The Bartells have opened doors that they could have only dreamt of. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Cast, The Inspiral Carpets and getting a foothold on the stages of some great music festivals.
We’ve had great opportunity to record at the infamous Rockfield Studios and record with Skin from Cast.
Things can’t get much better than this and In the words of our bass player “ The Best Hobby in the World!”.
Come and see us. If you can’t see us - hear us here!.

Starlight
**
Starlight is a tribute to a dear school friend of our bassist, The Dazzler, who left us too soon. It looks back on early mornings, shared headphones, and a mutual love for The Jam—echoes of which live on in Dazzler’s lyrics. He was magnetic: warm, vibrant, unforgettable. We still catch ourselves looking for him in the crowd.
The song began with a riff and melody from Oz. He and Alfie shaped it into something raw and real. True to Bartells form, it kept evolving right up to the final take at the iconic Rockfield Studios. Jonny added harmonies and electric rhythm, while Rob locked in the beat that pulled it all together. That’s when Starlight truly came alive.

STARLIGHT - EP
FINDING LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
If there’s one thing The Bartells don’t do, it’s play it safe. After making noise with last year’s debut, the UK five-piece charge back in 2025 with Starlight EP, a record that’s equal parts radio polish and open-heart confessional. The title track alone shows how far they’ve come: from the opening bars, you get pulsing, dynamic drums setting a heartbeat that doesn’t let up. The vocals, confident and warmly inviting, cut straight through there’s personality here, not just performance.
A TRIBUTE THAT HITS HOME
“Starlight” is the sound of a band paying tribute the only way they know how: honestly. Written as a nod to bassist Dazzler’s late school friend a magnetic character whose love for The Jam lingers in every lyric the track is built on nostalgia and loss, but it never feels heavy-handed. There’s a sense that the whole band is pushing forward together, from Oz’s original riff to Alfie and Jonny’s layers, with Rob’s drumming holding everything together. It’s polished without being plastic, and the chorus is so catchy you’ll be humming it by the second spin.
And when the guitar solo arrives at 2:29, it’s perfectly placed—just the right amount of flair, never showy, always serving the song. This is experience talking, the sort of thing that happens when a band has spent real time finding their voice. If the studio version is made for the radio, you just know this one was written for the stage.
WHEN STRIPPED BACK HURTS MORE
The real surprise, though, comes with the acoustic version of “Starlight.” Gone are the full drums and electric sheen. What’s left is a stripped-back, far more emotional take that doesn’t hide the pain. The vocals here feel exposed, vulnerable almost as if Dazzler’s tribute is being whispered across empty seats at closing time. It’s raw, and it’s where the ache at the core of the song is laid bare. For anyone who’s lost someone, this is the version that lands with the gut punch.
ECHOES OF REAL LIFE
This isn’t just studio trickery. The Bartells recorded at Rockfield Studios, and you can hear the benefit a clarity and depth that lets each instrument shine, without ever scrubbing away the soul. It’s a production that knows when to step forward and when to get out of the way. The result: a sound that’s polished enough for a radio playlist but still feels like it belongs in a sweaty club, shared between band and crowd.
THE REST OF THE STORY
Rounding out the EP is an acoustic take on “The Right Way,” recorded live at Radio Alty. Again, the band strips things back to the essentials, letting the melodies and lyrics do the heavy lifting. It’s another reminder that The Bartells don’t need to hide behind effects or volume. Their songs hold up under the spotlight, bare and honest.
FINAL WORD
What makes Starlight EP stand out isn’t just the catchy hooks or polished production. It’s the lived-in feeling, the weight behind every lyric, and the sense of a band making music that matters to them and, by extension, to everyone listening. If you want a record that’s as heartfelt as it is ready for the big stage, The Bartells have you covered.
